The point of this exercise is to stall and balance the board with as little forward motion as possible, which makes it inherently unstable. It is a blast. I recommend doing it in warm water because swimming is sometimes involved. Patagonia Lake, Baja Arizona. August 2019.

The calm, flat water of Mission Bay is an outstanding place to place to learn stand up paddle boarding on one of Baja Arizona SUP's stable boards by Imagine Paddle Surf. Here, I'm doing a pivot turn on my 14' Imagine Rocket race board. Drop the tail, raise the nose, spin the board around. 

Practicing pivot turns on the super stable Imagine Surf Icon. At 11' long and 34" wide, this board makes it easy to learn and fun to paddle. 

The most unique way to tour Baja Arizona? On a stand up paddle board. 

There is nothing like paddling through the desert followed by a Baja Arizona sunset. 

We stopped by the Mission San Xavier del Bac on the way back from the lake.  

I'm not trying to keep you in the dark, but early morning lessons are a great way to start the day. 

We left Tucson late so we went to the winery first and then paddled. All I will say is that everyone was relaxed by the time we hit the water. At Flying Leap Vineyard.

I took a road trip from Tucson with my son, Nick, deep into Baja Arizona. We paddled at Pena Blanca Lake, in the foothills of the Pajarito Mountains, northwest of Nogales in Santa Cruz County. I'm on my 12' Imagine Crossover, a great all around board. Stand up paddle board lessons can open up new ways to see Arizona. 

Viva Fiesta Island! My wife and I took a road trip from Tucson to San Diego with our boards strapped to the roof. As many times as we've been to San Diego, we never went to Fiesta Island. We loved it. We parked on the beach and paddled away. 

Thinking about taking stand up paddle board lessons? To paraphrase Peter Tosh, visualize it. Although Tucson and Southern Arizona are located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, they are great destinations for water sports, whether you're here as a snow bird or you're here during the monsoons. All we are saying, is give trees a chance...Arizona State Route 289. Santa Cruz County. Combine a road trip with a stand up paddle boarding lesson and see the desert from the water. Pena Blanca Lake is only an hour and a half from Tucson. Who wants to get on board?

If you're thinking, we're not in Tucson anymore, you're right. Giving stand up paddle boarding lessons at Bitter End Yacht Club, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands during the 2016 Pro-Am Regatta was a blast. That's right, the Caribbean. What a great place to paddle! It's beautiful, the water is warm, breakfast is waiting when we return, and then we race sailboats.

The last day of the Pro-Am regatta we started the morning with a downwinder in Eustasia Sound from Deep Bay through the cut at Saba Rock back into North Sound and BEYC. 

Yvonne's second time on a paddle board and she's all smiles after the downwinder from Eustasia Sound back to BEYC.

Right now is one of the perfect times to learn how to standup paddle board here in Baja Arizona.

My Imagine Surf Co. 12' Crossover board arrived. It is light and fast on flat water. Can't wait to get it into some waves. Thanks Dave Kalama for designing such a sweet ride. 

Yo Bart, why did it take us so long to get together? Beautiful setting for a first time paddle on a day with wind, boat wakes and chop. And my own private cove. I'll be back. 

My schedule opened up, so Ann and I went for a happy hour paddle at Patagonia Lake here in Baja Arizona. The usual patrons, a few ducks and a heron, were already there.
